Oi, you Mug!

I’d like to think I’m thought of as one of life’s more rational people. Someone not given to rash action, who plans, and thinks things through sometimes to the point of crippling indecision. Certainly not someone who holds any truck with things like silly superstitions.

That last is not strictly true, for here is my lucky mug. It is, as you can see, a Spurs mug, and its powers are a thing to behold. For if I were to consume all of my cups of tea on a given matchday SOLELY from this mug, and no other, it bestows upon my beloved Tottenham the Gift of Victory. Praise Be to the Spurs Mug!

Witness the particular match it commemorates. Our 5-1 trouncing of the Auld Enemy in the second leg of the 2008 Carling Cup semi-final. The Mug (so important it shall henceforth be Capitalised) was given to me as a gift by my wife soon after, and lo and behold we did triumph in the final over the dastardly Russian horde of Chelski. It was a righteous victory, and all those who did look upon its grace were heard to say “This is pleasing unto mine eyes.”

Since that Glorious Day, The Mug has been held in high regard, and its powers put to use on regular occasions. It was responsible for our away win over Manchester City at the end of last season, granting us entry to the Champions League. When we went 2-0 down against Young Boys of Bern in our qualifying match, verily was tea made in it at half-time, and we did equalise, and it was good. Once more at the San Siro it granted to Sir Gareth of Bale his wing-ed feet, and a most excellent hattrick against Inter Milan.

The Mug’s deeds are the stuff of legend. And so it is employed again today to see us past AC Milan, safely into the quarter finals.

Gomes Bless The Mug. Ah-Modric.

(Doesn’t seem to help us with our league form though).
