Super Pav

Was at White Hart Lane today for Spurs v Everton. The first half was probably the best display I’ve experienced in my visits since we beat Roma 5-0 in a friendly the summer before last. And the second half was as bad as the first was good!

It was vital that we won today – Man City produced an unexpected result in beating Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge (is it just me or are Chelski having a wobble?) which put massive pressure on Spurs. But after a slightly nerve shredding 6 minutes of injury time the whistle blew on what in the end was a deserved win.

Pavlyuchenko had another excellent game, and scored again – that’s 5 goals in 3 games for him now. I’ve always rated him, personally – I’ve always thought that with a decent run in the team he would show his worth, and so it proves. Modric also put in another fantastic performance – he had the sort of game he had started to play shortly before the injury earlier this season which kept him out for so long, and was rewarded with a cracking goal, in off the underneath of the crossbar.

So we’re back in 4th place on goal difference and with our game against Man City postponed for our FA Cup quarter final against Fulham, we have a few weeks to perhaps open up a little gap… Fingers firmly crossed!

In other footballing news, this afternoon the Carling Cup final was won by Man Utd. That’s just what we need – more smug United fans. I was really rooting for Villa, and they opened the scoring with a penalty which should have seen Vidic sent off, but with it happening after just 5 minutes the referee bottled it. Liverpool beat Blackburn 2-1 to keep the fight for 4th place very close indeed, and it will be a tense last couple of months for Spurs fans…
